Welcome to the Wright House restoration/renovation blog!

Aug 2009

To catch up, Dan and I are buying and renovating my great-grandmother's (Nanoo) farmhouse. I decided to start blogging about it to keep everyone up to date with our progress and to keep track of where we have come and where we go.

The house is an old craftsman style farmhouse built in the late 1920s by my great-grandparents. It has been added to and had one part burned and rebuilt. It needs a lot of updating and renovation to bring it up to snuff. It has beautiful hardwood floors through out the whole house. It is all one level and has high 10 foot ceilings. It has a lot of neat trimwork and old woodworking inside. It is going to be really exciting to see it all come together and see the character come out.

Last June, we decided that we were interested in doing this. We currently live in the garage apartment of the farmhouse or as I like to call it the Carriage House or the Guest Quarters. :) We were in the House Hunting process but had not been able to find what we wanted when looking to buy a new house. After talking with my grandparents about the possibility of doing this, we began talking with our banker, a contractor (Donnie), and an architech (Christy) about the project.

After many revisions to plans, we have finally figured out what we are doing with it. We really want to keep the original essence of the house intact and then get it updated. We are also going to add in two new sections. We will close on it this month and then hope to get started with the renovation soon after that! Hope you enjoy the postings!
