We have permanent electricity!!!! Yea! SCE&G came on Wednesday (August 18th) and hooked up the new pole and lines. This actually event has a lot more to it than it would appear...as always, it is never a dull moment at the Wright Reno! We had a meeting with SCE&G to see if they would move the current pole and put the cables under ground. Well, I say "We" and I mean "Dan" since I work downtown, its not an option for me to come home for any of these things. :)
SCE&G agreed but we had to dig the trenches and put the conduit down. Instead of paying to rent a piece of equipment, we asked Bubba if we could use his rubber tire backhoe. I wont go into the details but lets just say that from now on, Bubba or Dad will be driving their equipment if the crew needs anything done with heavy, expensive equipment. The ditches were dug and so what was left of the side yard became a moat. Naturally it rained, so we actually had a moat for a little while. The conduit was put in and then we had to fill the holes back in before SCE&G could turn on the power. Dad stepped in and helped us out with that so that we wouldn't have to shovel it back in (thanks a million!) since Bubba was in Alaska and the crew has been banned from touching any of the Salisbury equipment. SCE&G came and turned it on!
Dan and I had to leave town the same afternoon that SCE&G came because his grandaddy had become ill and sadly passed away that night. Even though we had lights in our house, a light was turned off in our hearts. He was very loved and will be very missed. I will say one thing, family is very important to both Dan and I and we are very lucky on both sides to have such close and tight knit family. I hope that we are able to pass those same values on to our future children and that this house is able to play a large role helping us to keep the traditions that Nanoo and Papoo started so many years ago.
