Ain't Life A Hoot

Just when we think life is going well, bam! God sends down a reminder that we are not in control. Well, that happened to us last weekend when 1 hour before a very spontaneously planned trip to Omaha --which let me preface by saying was quite an outside the box idea for our family-- for the College World Series championship baseball game for Carolina's hopeful 3peat- I found water flooding everywhere in our laundry room/pantry/hallway. Soooo the Wrights are back in Reno mode and now we are living in the construction zone vs next to it. Niccceee. Figured I could take it as the perfect opportunity to start blogging again (I had missed this writing outlet anyway) so here we are.

So getting back to the fun part, I walk in to the hallway and stop short when my feet hit water and start screaming for Dan, and we quickly realize this is a major problem. Water was POURING from the bottom of the washer and flowing out the door, down the hallway and into the pantry. IT. WAS. A. MESS DISASTER. We called in the reinforcements (AKA beloved friends and family, let me tell you, you know who your true friends are when they drop everything --even leaving wife home alone with 1 week old twins--and come and help! Thank you to those who came, those who offered and to those who would have come had I thought to call you). We then realize there was no way in Hades we were going to make our flights so I call the airlines to try to cancel. Here is where God steps in, and miraculously I had the easiest, most wonderful (thou still slightly panic stricken) conversation with US Air and in a matter of seconds had a full refund. What?!? Yes, a full refund. Thank you Jesus. That money will now go towards our deductible. Then I also just as easily cancelled everything else too. Apparently we were just not meant to be in Omaha.

So fastforward a few days and the house smells bad, the water restoration company has determined we have to REPLACE the floors, the insurance company has agreed and we are {patiently} waiting all estimates and then $$$$. While researching ways to keep a laundry room from flooding (wink wink) I came across this amazing blogger and thought I would end with her very wise words and something I am striving to do, ESP in this crazy mess of life.

“When a woman has a kingdom heart, she has an active understanding of what matters most to the heart of God. She lives in the balance of passion and contentment. She learns to love well, give without regard to self, and forgive without hesitation. The woman with a kingdom heart may have a duffel bag full of possessions or enough treasures to fill a mansion, but she has learned to hold them with an open hand. Hold everything with open hands. I don’t think we are ever allowed to grab hold of anything or anyone as though they matter more than the kingdom of heaven. When you hold relationships with open hands, then people come in and out of your life as gifts of grace to be cherished and enjoyed, not objects to be owned and manipulated. And then when you hold your dreams with open hands, you get to watch God resurrect what seemed dead and multiply what seemed small.”
