Water + hard wood floors + felt paper on top of sub floor = mildew = smell
demo on floors to remove ruined wood = smell permeating the entire house = YUCK!
Here is the ruined floor picture. You can see the ridges popping up and the sort of warped look to them. Its kinda hard to tell but if I had a picture of the "before" then you could probably see the difference.
The guy we called last week to see about demo work called back and said he could start today so we jumped on board and Barry, our beloved exterior painter/handyman from the reno was back in action, tearing up all the ruined wood. The most positive thing I can say is that we have at least moved forward. The downside is that there was lots of dirt, saw dust, splinters, wood staples, and a very stinky odor wafting through the house. The more flooring pulled up, the worse it smelled which was not going to mesh well with a good night sleep so we elected to lay our pretty little heads elsewhere.
It was pretty disheartening to be watching the floors we had worked oh so hard on be torn up and to see all that mess. We put so much effort into the reno and it is crazy that just in a snap it can all be undone. I guess life is like that though. On the way to my in-laws to spend the night, Need to Breathe came on the radio with their inspiring words
Even when the rain falls
Even when the flood starts rising
Even when the storm comes
I am washed by the water
It really struck a chord. It is sometimes so hard to get beyond circumstances and even if my load is not as burdensome as other people's loads (knowing several who have recently lost loved ones particularly comes to mind), it is still a load to bear and it is still sometimes hard to keep my head up and keep smiling. Then I focused on their words and realized that nothing matters as long as I am truly "washed by the water"and the Lord will give me the strength to get through even the darkest of nights and the deepest pain. Remember those footprints in the sand? When there was only one pair? Yea, that was Jesus holding him up as He will do to each of us. Praise the Lord cause I know I can't do it by myself! :)
