March Madness

March Madness is a great description of what is going on with the Wright house currently. Not only has the real March Madness tourney began, which does mean that Danny is glued to the TV and watching his bracket choices, but also crazy changes are going on with the house.
First with the rain and then with the weather temperatures changes back and forth from warmer to colder (thank goodness it finally seems to have settled into the beginning of Spring). They did finally get the roof finished. Other than than that, most of the work has been on the inside. You couldn't tell by much since it still looked as gutted as it did 1 month ago. It was this lonely shell of what used to be without windows, front door, front porch, esp after they ripped off the front porch floor. The windows were taped up with plastic and the front door became a piece of plywood nailed to the hole. It was sort of sad, esp as I grew up on those steps and on that porch all of my childhood having lived next door.

That is until this past week. March madness really occurred as the house took a huge transition. The windows have been installed. The house was then wrapped in black felt in preparation for the new siding. And suddenly it looks like a whole new house! Gone are the old days of the gutted construction mess that it was and in return is a snazzy looking construction site that is prepared for new siding to be placed. I cannot even begin to imagine what it will look like then! By the end of this crazy month, the outside might actually be completed! As each of these things have taken place this week, I know Nanoo is smiling down on us as she glimpses what used to be.
Meanwhile on the inside of the Wright Household, madness has also been occurring. We have been making decisions left and right. Each day brings new questions that need new answers "soon" which means immediately.

Plumbing fixtures for master bathroom-check.
Hurricane lanterns for all exterior entrances and garage-check.
Lay out of kitchen-check.
Layout of laundry room-check.
Placement of all interior light switches- check.
Placement of the outlet plugs-check.
Placement of the lighting fixtures-check.
Switches for fans-check.
Outside exterior doors-almost check.
Tax return sent in to help fund this project-check.
Prayer for the sanity of both Danny and myself and for the ability to finish the project sometime in 2010 without going totally broke-check check.

It is safe to say that this is definitely a hard process. Harder than I realized it would be. Sure, all folks who have gone through this before tried to warn us (hmm, KC & LA to name one inspirational couple who did this not very long ago themselves..) but we thought we had this in the bag. Until, one by one, the reality of renovating an old house came to light. First this, then that, and before you know it, all of the house is torn apart because it needs to be replaced and the money you had in your bank account is slim pickings. Kudos to those who have gone before us and completed their projects. We hope to join you on the Wall of Fame one day.
