Countdown to the Getting the Certificate of Occupancy

Not a day passes by that someone at some point doesn't ask me "Hows the house?" or "Are you in yet?" And although I truly am glad that there are a lot of people who care about what we are doing and how it is coming, it can be a rather frustrating reminder that the answer is "No we are not in yet" and "Yes we know it has taken a very long time" and "Yes we hope to be done soon" and especially the dreaded "No we do not have a move in date set yet" so on and so forth. So I am going to start our countdown list of what is actually left to do. Perhaps this is really just to help me see in writing that there is not much left to do and perhaps it will also help all my sweet and thoughtful friends and family to know how we really are coming on this long winded--taking forever--hope to be done and moved soon--project.

If we are going to be real about things, there are really two lists we are working on. One could be labeled TO GET CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY while the other should be labeled as BEFORE WE CAN MOVE or THE MISS PRISS LIST OF NECESSARY COMPONENTS.

Needless to say that the inspector doesn't really care if we have shelves in our closet or doors on our kitchen cabinets but Miss Priss does and so those items fall to her very own special list. Fortunately we are very close to being done with the CO list and not too far from the Miss Priss list because she is getting just a little bit antsy.

CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY:
1. Install kitchen sink (to be done this week)
2. Install plumbing fixtures (to be done next week)
3. Install security system/smoke detectors
4. Install handrails
5. A few landscaping details (to be done this weekend)

MISS PRISS LIST OF NECESSITY COMPONENTS/MOVE IN READY:
1. Kitchen and master bath cabinet doors/knobs (on order already)
2. Install all pantry and closet shelves and rods
3. Paint exterior doors
4. Paint exterior porch columns
5. Finish hall bathroom
6. Order kitchen appliances
7. Hang dining room light fixture
8. Order window blinds/shutters/window coverings
9. Finish FROG walls (need a little bit more sanding as well as finish)
10. Install interior door knobs
11. Landscape the yard
12. Rock the driveway

See how close we are? Or how far away I guess could depend on your outlook on life. I fortunately tend to be a "glass half full" sort of gal so I think we can be finished soon.

Or in the words of Tom Hanks from his very hilariously true 80's movie--"2 weeks!" (See previous post of a clip from the movie so you can see what I mean)
